We are nature, we are the environment!
Travelling Iceland’s founder is Helga Bára, a geologist with a doctorate in micropaleontology, with special emphasis on past climatic and oceanic changes. Enthusiastic about nature and the environment and knowledgeable of her country, Helga Bára and her great team of experts, will discover with you all the gems of the North, with focus on sustainable travel.
In January 2017, Travelling Iceland signed a declaration on sustainable and responsi- ble tourism and when you book with us, we cooperate in the conservation of nature, as we donate to protect a sustainable and responsible tourism, and to maintain a healthy nature for the well-being of future generations.
We are proud to present that Travelling Iceland won the LTG Europe award 2019, for being the winner of Private Tour Operator of the Year in Iceland!

Responsible Travel
Responsible travel is part of Travelling Iceland’s DNA. Since the beginning, we’ve strived to being kind to the environment. We work with local people, hotels and businesses in our destinations. Not only do we feel this gives you the best experience, it also brings benefits to local communities. As a result, local people are motivated to preserve what attracts visitors, be it their culture, wildlife or environment.
Take Action
Our Sustainable Travel Tips
1. Book directly with the hotel and tour operators and local DMC´s.
2. Slow down and stay longer
3. Pack light and compensate for the carbon footprint of your travels locally.
4. Travel off season and get off the beaten track.
5. Respect local communities.
6. Choose locally made products and services and hotels from local businesses. Avoid international brands.
7. Buy products and services with eco-labels.
8. Save energy and resources.
9. Drink tap water and bring your reusable water bottle. Tap water in Iceland is clean and pure glacier and mountain water.
10. Avoid single use plastic.
11. Put your trash into the next recicle bins.
12. Reduce, reuse and recycle.
I pledge to be a responsible tourist
When I explore new places, I will leave them as I found them
I will take photos to die for, without dying for them
I will follow the road into the unknown, but never venture off the road
And I will only park where I am supposed to
When I sleep out under the stars, I'll stay within a campsite
And when nature calls, I won't answer the call on nature
I will be prepared for all weathers, all possibilities and all adventures
The Icelandic Pledge
Future of Tourism
Travelling Iceland has signed the Guiding Principles launched by the newly formed Future of Tourism Coalition – the Center for Responsible Travel (CREST), Destination Stewardship Center, Green Destinations, Sustainable Travel International, Tourism Cares, and the Travel Foundation, with the guidance of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). These principles outline a bold vision for tourism’s path forward and as a signatory, we commit to place destination needs at the center of tourism’s new future and do our part to create a better tomorrow. Book Direct Campaign
The BOOK DIRECT campaign, supported by HOTREC and its Member Associations, is aiming at raising awareness among guests, hoteliers and restaurateurs across Europe on the possibility of booking direct with the supplier. Not only do you support local businesses by booking directly with the supplier, but you also always have an immediate and direct contact with the service provider. Thanks to this direct contact all your specific and personal requests can be discussed and be responded to directly in a confidential and efficient manner. The direct relationship, like everywhere else in life, helps making the supplier – guest connection closer and more familiar.
