The best of Iceland in
8 days / 7 nights
Tour description
About Iceland’s new years eve
Iceland has become internationally famous for its intense, and firework-filled New Year’s Eve celebration. Icelanders spend a lot of money on fireworks each year, partly because they love the color display on New Year’s Eve, but also because they are supporting the Icelandic Rescue Teams that heavily rely on income based on fireworks and Christmas tree sales each year. People start shooting a couple of fireworks a couple of days before New Year’s Eve and continue until the 6th of January, but of course, most of them are shot around midnight on New Year’s Eve. Experience New Year with us and let us take you to the best spots to enjoy the show.
All-inclusive New Year travel package!
Start your adventure with the Northern Lights excursion which will be the focus of the trip together with the New Year Celebration.
Explore the Golden Circle, visit Thingvellir National Park, Geysir Hot Springs, and Gullfoss Waterfall, and enjoy a rare lunch experience at the unique Friðheimar Greenhouse restaurant. Enjoy the new Sky Lagoon and relax after a tour around Reykjavík city, the northernmost capital of the world.

The black small pebbles on the beach have been smoothed by the ocean waves, and amongst them are scattered rusty parts of a wreckage of a ship that was stranded in the area in 1948. In the old days, fishermen used to test their strength by lifting heavy rocks, that still lie there. Heaviest is Fullsterkur (“full strength”), weighing 154 kg, next is Hálfsterkur (“half strength”) weighing 100 kg, hálfdrættingur (“weakling”) weighing 54 kg and Amlóði (“Useless”) 23 kg. They were traditionally used to qualify men for work on fishing boats, with the Hálfdrættingur being the minimum weight a man would have to lift onto a ledge at hip height to qualify.
Lóndrangar cliffs are volcanic plugs of basalt, between 61 and 75 metres in height, that have been formed by the erosion of the surrounding material.
Vatnshellir lava cave is a lava tube in an 8000-year lava field. The lava was formed in an eruption in a nearby crater Purkhólar. During the eruption the lava flowed downhill, cooling down on the surface while still running below, ultimately draining out and leaving a beautiful lava tube, which is now accessible Hellnar and Arnarstapi are small and ancient fishing villages. Hellnar beach has amazing rock formations which will be visited.
